Have keys, will move

Today I entered the house with such a new perspective. Every little thing I do and don’t like; everything I want exactly the same and everything I want to change…entirely mine to deal with.
I started by delivering some essentials: a roll of toilet paper, towel, spare old shirts, tape measure, hammer, two screwdrivers, paper toweling and kitchen and bathroom cleaners.
The best first tool I took with me was the vacuum cleaner. No, there’s no carpet in the house. With the long hose I vacuumed the pantry cabinets, drawers, closets and all those dark corners with unidentifiable little bits of paper, ancient dust bunnies and in one cabinet, several stray sunflower seeds. From the back of one shelf a Halloween candy rolled out… a chocolate wrapped in foil and decorated to look like an eyeball.
In the bathroom, for the first time, I observed what a REALLY DEEP bath tub it is. Nice. And the little vanity looks good. The whole concept of a door that opens to trap the light switch BEHIND the door escapes me. That will have to change, or I’ll go to a motion detector light.
To my chagrin, I sized up the walls of the first two bedrooms to paint… the surface is super lumpy. In fact, in one room painted pale yellow, it looks like scrambled eggs. Not only that, it’s painted in high gloss. Bummer. I’ll check with the Miller Paint resident experts, but I do believe that means I’ll be doing a LOT of sanding.
Never-the-less, tomorrow I go to work just a few morning hours (until 10:30am) then I shall begin the dance of the boxes, borrowing Karen’s station wagon so I can transport more than 4 boxes at a time.
