Tools you will need to install microwave: hammer.
|To my friends who thought the great stories would end when the house sale closed:
I laugh at you. Ha, ha.
I figure it’s about time to share the intent of this blog. No, it’s neither to whine nor boast. Nor is it to issue darts and laurels nor to endorse products. My life has been a series of freak events. This is my “normal” and I find a great deal of humor in it. Life is funny and my hope is that you can laugh along with me.
Today I spent the afternoon with the delightful help of Bertony, of Abbey Creek Vineyards, and his most excellent truck. I almost felt useless. Here I am figuring we’ll each take an end to carry this or that. Nope, he bear-hugs it and trots it out to the truck like it’s a 50 lb. bag of dog food. Ok, so I’ll carry the throw pillows!

“Wait,” you say. “What was that about the microwave and hammer?”
The new microwave was among the items we brought to the house today. April 2010 my favorite model microwave was discontinued and I found an online appliance seller with five of them at about 70% off suggested retail. I bought one back then and kept it boxed up for this day.
In the evening Troy arrived to install this delightful appliance. Upon lifting it from its box for the first time, I observed an extreme inward and upward dent in the top left side. There was no way the microwave would slide into the hanging bracket with that big bulge. So I gave Troy the ok to apply a block and a hammer to flattening the bulge. He did a great job– good enough that it slid into the bracket AND still worked! Not home free yet… the jarring of the hammer caused one of the top threaded screw plates to drop down inside the case so we had to remove the outer metal case TWICE to set it back in place. The 30 minute job took about two hours but it was finally done.
And when Troy wanted to wash his hands and couldn’t, he adjusted the last connections to correct the water geyser problem. Hurray– running water in the kitchen AND, the new microwave is in.
Besides the furniture help, installed microwave and repaired kitchen water supply, today’s other accomplishments included getting delivery of my house trash cans and working out the door order with Jarrod Sherwood of Sherwood Doors. Troy met with the guys on the truss plans. Once we have those, I’ll put them with my plan drawings and be ready to submit for my permits!
