One person’s garage is anothers workshop…

This perplexity I actually find interesting because in my warped way of thinking, I can see how this happened…

It was understood up front that with my limited funds, Troy and I would be looking for cost-saving opportunities. For example, I’ve been assisting with the hanging of insulation, I’ll be painting, and I will again assist with the floor installation.

There was also a discussion about finishing out the garage…. to insulation and sheet rock up front or not. That’s now a point of confusion. From day-one, there has been a garage and a workshop for me. It’s right there on all the plans. I absolutely need the workshop finished out so my stained glass work and other things can move in. The garage can be a lesser priority.

Now Troy tells me the quote he gave me was for leaving the garage and workshop unfinished because he calls the “workshop” garage as well.  Our confusion centers around me using “garage” as the name title for a specific room and “workshop” the title for a different specific room. Troy is thinking “garage” is a term interchangeable with “unconditioned space” and therefore qualifies both areas as “garage.”

What does the mortgage construction contract say? “Insulation of new space per local code.” Well now isn’t THAT helpful! It’s all new space, but local code does not require insulation of the unconditioned spaces.

I’m being charged a fair price for everything–even when you don’t include the workshop. The frustration is that I don’t really have the personal funds to finish the workshop after the mortgage project is completed.

We’ll see what happens…
